3fold’s Pride Is A Protest Poster Series

In 2022, state legislatures have advanced hundreds of anti-LGBTQ+ bills across the country. As of mid-March, over 400 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been proposed in 2023. Our junior art director, Z, a trans non-binary designer wanted to create something for Pride month that made a statement while educating and reminding people about queer issues of the past and present.

Using design to challenge injustice and celebrate identity

In the face of rising anti-LGBTQ+ legislation—over 400 bills proposed by mid-2023—3fold chose to stand up, not just stand by. One of our junior team members, Z LaFrance, a trans non-binary designer, approached us with a bold idea for Pride Month. They didn’t want to create another rainbow-themed social post. They wanted to use their voice—and their art—to spark conversation, challenge bias, and honor the history behind Pride. We backed them completely.

What we did

We launched a visual campaign designed to educate, agitate, and uplift. Each piece tackled a timely and often controversial issue—rainbow capitalism, blood donation bans for gay and bisexual men, Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law—offering facts alongside powerful visual storytelling.

This wasn’t a marketing exercise. It was a community moment. One that reminded our audience that Pride started as a riot. That LGBTQ+ rights are not guaranteed. And that creative platforms—when used with intention—can be a powerful force for equity and inclusion.

Why it mattered

Clients come to us to help them engage communities. This project showed how we engage our own. It reflected our values as an agency. It demonstrated that we create space for our team to lead from lived experience. And it reminded everyone watching that real connection requires real courage.
