We love our clients and we love innovative thinking, especially when it’s focused on strengthening the community. Because of this, we are proud to have played a part in helping our client, the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), launch their Shine Awards campaign.

We also can’t wait to see what kind of project ideas our community’s nonprofits come up with! It’s your time to shine (see what we did there?)!

The high-level.

This year, our publicly-owned SMUD is turning 70, a milestone worth celebrating! For this reason, SMUD decided to do its own gifting by doling out cash for good ideas.

In an effort to better connect to the communities it serves, neighborhood by neighborhood, SMUD has introduced the Shine Awards. The Shine Awards applauds the ingenuity and integrity community nonprofits bring to each of SMUD’s seven wards by awarding sponsorships to help fund community enhancement projects.

Here is how it works.

SMUD’s Shine Awards are encouraging community partners to promote community pride and positive development by beautifying their neighborhood through a revitalization or improvement project. While SMUD will consider all proposals, Shine is interested in steering its designated funding to the following areas:

  • Neighborhood revitalization or clean up
  • STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
  • Environmental, energy-efficiency, energy conservation or greenhouse gas reduction
  • General beautification

To test how the process could work, SMUD helped fund three pilot Shine Award sponsorships. The pilots included matching funding for:
