A crew of chatty 3folders gathered today for our quarterly ‘Lunch ‘n Learn.’ Alicia (@aliciatoday) presented a detailed report on the current state of mobile marketing. We loved it–although she had to put up with about 852 interruptions as each of us wanted to talk about our experience with being marketed to on our mobile devices.
And then, oh wait…we haven’t even gotten to loudest part. As soon as apps were brought up, the chatter turned to chaos as each person vied to talk about how their favorite app has changed their life.**
It would do us no good by keeping our apps to ourself. So, based on the top choices of those 3folders with iPhones, we offer you, 3fold’s map for apps. Enjoy. (And, make sure to leave us a comment with your favorite app.)
Allison’s pick: Epicurious app. “It has an incredible list of recipes that can be searched by ingredient or type of recipe (main dish, side, vegetable, etc.) – AND it can create shopping lists based on recipes and store your favorite ones… it’s awesome.”
Angela’s pick (tie): Kindle app. “This app lets me read my Kindle books from my iPhone. I love to read, and love this app because it feeds my addiction.” (Side note: Angela has a Kindle and an iPad to for reading, so this must be a good app if she still uses it in addition to other technology). Also, Evernote app. “This thing syncs notes between my iPhone, my iPad, and my desktop… instantaneously. I can take notes and then access them anywhere and anytime. Cannot say enough about this for productivity.”
Natalie’s (current) pick: Angry Birds app. “This is a game where you dish out revenge on the green pigs who stole your eggs by using the unique destructive powers of the Angry Birds. I wish I could say I had a “good” reason for using it. I don’t. I play it mostly when I can’t sleep or when I’m in a waiting room of some sort…or when I need to take a little aggression out on someone…”
Amanda’s pick: Infinity Gene app. “It’s Space Invaders for the iPhone. Not only is it ironically awesome from an old vs. new technology standpoint, it also generates levels from tracks you can choose on your iPod. Even when you die, a new level is generated for an infinite number of gaming possibilities.”
Gordon’s pick: FlightTracker app. Provides up-to-date information on airline flights/arrival gates/and a super cool map that shows the plane in route. “Really convenient when I travel to check gate numbers, and whether my connecting flight is on time; when picking up someone from the airport, it lets me know how long I need to wait in the cell-phone lot!”
Linda’s pick: ESPN app. “Somehow I got ESPN loaded onto my iPhone (I think Angela did that for me) and I love it! I also somehow manage to get a notification each time a SF Giants game starts and what the status is as the game goes along. Since I’m an avid fan of the Giants, this just makes my day, I get everything I need about the games without having to take the time to sit and watch them, it’s perfect!”
**(Author is only only slightly bitter to be writing a post about iPhone apps when she doesn’t have an iPhone of her own.)

I’m a simple guy. Google Maps is probably the most helpful app I have. I use it all the time on the road, and my wife and I even used it extensively on a recent trip to Boston. Our rental car didn’t have GPS, so it was a life-saver.
